Our not-so-weekly email

Dear %%First Name%%,

This Week's Special

With the election over you can finally stop watching MSNBC (or was it Fox News) and go back to reading. Here's a weekly special to start you off.

This Week's Special is an exciting thriller about two women on the run: one a deputy sheriff, the other who barely escaped death at the hands of the ruthless killer who now pursues them. Save 20% on this exciting read with our Weekly Special.

Our world famous bathroom

Those of you who have visited the store in the past few years undoubtedly know that our bathroom is painted up to look like a prison cell and that the walls are covered with graffiti--actually the signatures and other comments by the several hundred authors who have visited the store in recent years.

We are now able to share our prize through courtesy of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette who created a 360 degree panorama and posted it on their website. If you'd like to see it you'll find it here. Our thanks to PG photographer Steve Mellon for this splendid effort.

October MLB Best Sellers

The list of MLB Best Sellers for October has been posted and it reflects the visits of many authors last month including David Liss, Robert Greer and our Halloween Birthday Bash guests. Advanced sales for Suzanne Martinson's Fallingwater Cookbook also put her on the list despite her event not taking place until Nov. 21.

Check out the MLB Best Sellers for October and see what our customers have been reading.

Staff picks for November

Our staff has come up with an interesting assortment of Staff Picks for November that include some holiday mysteries, children's books and others. See what we've been reading at November Staff Picks.

2008 Gift Guide now online

We're pleased to announce that the 2008 Gift Guide, our holiday catalog, is now available in an online form that allows you to browse and buy.

The online version has even more books, puzzles, games and gift ideas than the printed version and makes your holiday shopping a breeze.

If you prefer a printed version of the Gift Guide, you can download it from the site.

Many of our holiday items including jigsaw puzzles, pop-ups, signed books and food will sell out as the holidays approach. Why not use our Free Shipping offer to get a jump on your holiday shopping and avoid disappointment later on.

Go Green update

As you know, we began a campaign last month to reduce the costs and environmental impact of printing and mailing the MLB news.

The response has been tremendous with over 350 customers so far agreeing to forgo the printed News in favor of the online version. Our thanks to all of you.

If you want to know more, visit our Go Green page for full details.

New arrivals

With most of the November books already received, the new arrivals have slowed down a bit but there are plenty of interesting new choices including a short story collection from Stephen King, new Washington mysteries from Margaret Truman, Anne Perry new Christmas mystery and many others.

You'll find the complete list of both US and British books at New Arrivals.

Signed books

We have signed first editions by several authors either here now or due. If you're interested, please order now as supplies of these are limited.

Halloween Birthday Bash

We had a splendid time at our Hallowen Birthday Bash on Oct. 31. Our ten cent book sale raised over $400 for Beginning with Books thanks to the generosity of our customers.

We have signed copies of the hardcovers for four of the authors who were here. Cordelia Biddle, unfortunately, had to cancel her appearance due to illness. We have signed copies of the following:
